Team 8
#0 Kourtland Armstrong 5’9 2020 Pontotoc High School
Strong guard that knows how to use his speed, rather it’s him starting the fast break or just getting downhill. He can get to the rim and finish at a high level, not only that but he can break the defense down and set his teammates up for easy shots. He will be the one to run the show for a very good Pontotoc team this season.
#9 Kamron Carter 2022 6’ New Albany High School
A underclassmen guard that is simply a pick and roll maestro. He knows how to find the bigs on the roll or the shooters that are spotting up. The part of his game that impressed me the most was how effective he was with his midrange shot which he knocked down a lot this camp. He’s a smart defender that knows when it is the right time to gamble for a steal or play the passing lane. Look for him to have a strong Sophomore campaign.
#22 Avaughn Johnson 6’3 2022 Murrah High School
Mr. Underclassmen of the day was a beast from the beginning until the end of camp. The long armed combo guard can defend positions 1-4 and it is very active on the offensive and defensive glass. He knows how to utilize his size when he either has to shoot the 3 over the smaller defender or take the big off the dribble whenever they switched. He had a big first game scoring 3 straight 3 pointers and getting some easy fast break dunks off of steals. Not only that but he has a good handle and once he gets the mentality to where he can get to the basket whenever he wants the sky will be the limit. He had a strong showing in the Top 20 game getting to the basket finishing over taller defenders and knocking down the 3 as well. This is a prospect D1 needs to see now.
#46 Jesse Sartin 5’8 2020 Tremont High School
One word to simply describe Jesse was defense. One of the smallest guards at the camp and you wouldn’t have even known from the intensity he brought on the defensive end causing turnovers stealing it from the ball handler or coming weak side and stripping the big man. He’s a strong guard that knows how to hold his own and can give out buckets as well. He has a nice 3 point shot and he’s not afraid to get to the basket.
#47 Mitchell Shettles 6’ 2020 New Albany High School
A shooter that was high from behind the 3 point line all day. He’s one of the best catch and shoot players in the state and the best part of that was he knew how to use the shot fake to get by his defender and get into the lane. He lived at the free throw line all day and the defense couldn’t contain him. He was selected to the Top 20 team and deserved it rightfully so. He can score at a high level and can also defend but the part of his game that impressed me was his leadership, rather he was cheering his teammates on or getting them in the right positions to succeed. He will have a strong senior season and look for him to be a top scorer in the state.
#56 Jaquaries Williams 6’2 2022 Columbus High School
A strong lead guard that made his presence known as soon as he stepped on the court. A younger player but he kept his teammates engaged and alert with the way he talked on defense and picked up the opposing guard 94 ft. He has shifty handles and he put on a show breaking the defender down and pulling up from deep or just blowing by them for an easy layup. He is very fast and is always two steps ahead of the opposition and set his teammates up for easy layups. When he learns to be patient and let plays develop look for him to be a top prospect in the 2022 class.
#54 Wenton Walker 6’6 2020 Jackson Academy
Wenton was a top 5 performer in the camp and was simply unstoppable. He is a very long Forward that can block shots and is very active in the passing lanes. He could rebound the ball and start the fast break and simply finished in the lane whenever he wanted to. A knockdown shooter and if you gave him an inch he used his quick release and knocked down the 3 at a high level. He knew when to attack the slower the defender or backed down the smaller defender for an easier shot. His handles are very underrated and he used them to get separation or to easily blow by his opponent. He has great vision and knows how to find the right player at the right time and was very patient and played within the game. He’s not afraid of contact and tried to poster a taller defender while driving baseline. He averaged 14 ppg and and was the leading scorer in the Top 20 game with 15. Low and Mid Major D1’s need to get on him immediately.
#80 David Harbour 6’6 2022 Mooreville
A long and athletic wing, Harbour drew praise for his overall skill set. He showed that he can do it all. The 6-foot-6 sophomore defends the one through the four with ease. He showed that he can shoot the three very well and he finishes strong at the rim. He brings a lot of toughness and a very competitive spirit with him whenever he is on the floor. As he continues to improve his overall IQ of the game, he will be one to watch.
#34 Chase Parker 6’2021 Tremont
A quick and shifty small guard with a scorers mentality, Parker did a nice job in the camp setting. He is very good defensively and uses his athleticism to stay in front of ball handlers. As he continues to groom his skills and IQ look for him to be a threat for Tremont this season
#35 Donovan Parker 6’1 2021 Heidelberg
A solid point guard, Parker stayed within his skill set and made plays on the defensive end of the floor. He was engaged and had good reviews for being a good defender. Made plays for others and created offensive opportunities for himself in the process.
#44 Chase Rose 6’3 2021 Kirk Academy
Rose had a really good day. He was one of the best shooters in the gym. He can really shoot it off the catch or off the dribble. His off the ball movement is advanced and allows him to get open for easy baskets. He rebounded the ball well and defended the 1-3 position with no problem. With his shot making ability there is no doubt that he will torch the nets this year for Kirk Academy.
