T- Web's Sip's Best- Top 10 Teams
Callaway (19-5)
Callaway comes in at number 1 for the simple fact that they haven’t taken a loss to a Mississippi opponent this season. They have strong guard play with Ruffin and Hunt that can cause nightmares for opposing backcourts. All in all Callaway have a legit chance to dominate 5A this postseason due to the tough schedule they’ve played, and having the best pure scorer in the state.
Starkville (24-2)
The Yellowjackets are defending Champs. Although they lost a few key pieces, they always find a way to win and younger guys step up. They play with pace and defend well as a unit. Their 3 and D style will be tough to withstand and it seems like this group never have an off night from the 3 point line. Senior guard Forte Prater is arguably the Hottest name in the state for Jucos and when he’s on go this team looks unbeatable. If you want the 6A title you will have to be prepared to come and take it away from the Jackets.
Olive Branch (19-5)
Another team that has been on the big stage the last few years is Olive Branch. They will be well prepared to come into their new 6A division and take the gold ball back home with them. Cameron Mathews ( MSU signee) and Wes Taylor (JSU) lead the charge. They also have other quality players to help get wins. They can attack the rim strong and also knock down shots that make them a tough matchup. Olive Branch and Starkville will be on a crash course in which I feel that the game can go either way.
Center Hill (20-8)
Center Hill has played some tough competition this season and will be a well-oiled machine heading into the playoffs. Not to mention they are defending Champs. They are a very disciplined team that plays to their strengths and is well-coached. They have the ability to pound it inside and knock down jumpers Decarian Payton and Kaeden Laws will look to lead this group back for the Repeat. If anybody can stop Callaway it will be this group.
Oak Grove ( 21-2)
Besides two losses to Hattiesburg, which is a rival Oak Grove have been unstoppable. They have a solid mix of good guard play and size which is rare for most teams in Mississippi. 2021 Jay Barnes is leading the way with 16ppg. The team is averaging 13ast per game which means the ball is moving and everybody is contributing. Look for them to be a Dark Horse in the 6A playoffs.
New Hope (21-1)
Hattiesburg ( 21-6)
Forest Hill (21-5)
Meridian (21-5)
Raymond (19-7)
