Greater Level Athletics 2025 - Summer Review
July 2-7 Greater Level Athletics (GLA) took local 5th graders to Orlando, FL to compete at the YBOA National basketball tournament. Youth Basketball of America (YBOA) is one of the leading youth travel basketball associations in the country. Bringing teams nationwide under one roof for a week to compete to see who’s the best. Greater Level Athletics is a travel basketball Organization founded by Tremayne Webber in 2011. They have competed in Regional and National events year after year. Catching up with Coach Webber about how things have been this season he stated,
“Getting such a late start to the AAU season we weren’t sure how we would compete considering most of our roster haven’t played outside of recreation basketball leagues,” Webber said. “We put in a lot of gym hours, and the kids got better each time out”.
The YBOA National Championship was played in the Orange County Convention Center and housed 20 courts under one roof. For most kids this can be an exciting, yet overwhelming experience. GLA Finished the tournament 3-3 losing out in the Elite 8 to Team Sepreme (Ga.) 39-37.
“The team improved every game and showed tremendous heart and effort” Webber said. “I couldn’t be happier with the results considering this was our first national event with this group of talented 5th graders.”
Looking forward to next travel season which starts in March, Greater Level Athletics plans to field teams 4th-9th Grade on their roster. Finishing up with coach Webber he closed with, “We plan to house one of the most competitive Basketball Organizations in the Southeast. We are looking forward to adding more teams as well as players to represent the Golden Triangle and Mississippi on a Regional/National Level.” Greater Level has a proven track record of competing at a high level in National events. A top 10 Finish at the 2012 7th Grade AAU Nationals, Countless Super Regional first place finishes, Elite 8 Peach State Summer showcase finish. GLA has Alumni that plays in all levels of college basketball from the D1 level to NAIA.
To close GLA was the only 5th grade team from Mississippi to compete at any National event no matter the platform AAU, YBOA, NTBA, or USBA. Be sure to be on the lookout for upcoming events and we hope to grow the GLA Family.
