Top 40 Team 2

2021 6’3 Dj Harried (Warren Central)

Another guy who had a great day locking down guys was Harried. He made it known in drills that it would take a lot for you to get by him. He brought the intense on the defensive side of the ball and it sparked him to have some great offensive moments. He has great length for a guard and uses it to his advantage. He smoothers smaller guards into giving the ball up or eventually turning it over. Offensively, he has a smooth skill set which allows him to get to the rim and make jumpers with good efficiency. Coaches at every level should hop on Harried ASAP.

2021 6’ Daon Henry (Yazoo City)

Daon came into camp ready to compete. He’s a high IQ PG with a nice handle and one of the best mid-range jumpers I’ve seen in a while. He has great leadership qualities and does a great job of making sure he gets teammates going. When playing off the ball he can make the defense pay with his ability to attack and convert layups at a high rate.

2024 6’8 EJ Paymon (First Love)

EJ was one of the younger guys at camp, but one of the biggest in the gym. He did a great job competing with the big guys and had a very productive day. He showed the ability to knock down jumpers and finish through contact. Paymon has also begun to transform his body and has buffed up since I last saw him. With his ability to put the ball on the floor and his growing knowledge of the game look for EJ to transform into a national level talent when he heads over to First Love.

2023 6’7 Josh Holman (Jackson Academy)

Now we head over to Holman. Josh really impressed everyone on Saturday. We knew what he could be but he has really turned up the volume heading into this season. Saturday he made his presence felt every time he touched the ball. He dominated around the basket and with his ability to act as a guard that adds extra value. With there being so many talented guards, Holman took advantage of playing off the ball and scoring easy buckets. His highlight of the day was a 30-sec segment where he had a monster dunk and won the game off of a tip-in. Look for Holman to make some noise this season and carry it over to the spring/summer.

2023 6’9 Barrett Burchyett (Lewisburg)

Here we have another Top 10 2023 guy in the state. Barrett played great all day. He scored around the basket using a soft touch and then he took it to the perimeter, where he made jumpers consistently. He has improved so much in the last few months and we expect him to keep getting better. Defensively he grabs boards and blocks shots at a high rate. Expect to see some good basketball this season at Lewisburg with Burchyett leading the way.

2023 Demondre Graham ( SE Lauderdale)

Graham is one of the best prospects in the state. He always comes to compete and he brings a lot of energy and excitement. He first caught our attention last year at the Tidal Wave and this year he came to compete again. His long frame allows him to be a headache for opposition on both sides of the ball. He has a good offensive skill set and gets buckets with ease. He takes pride in shutting down the opposition’s best player which is rare for players in today’s game. His ability to guard multiple positions is something that will have coaches calling. He averaged 13pts 5rebs 4ast last year as a freshman and I expect those numbers to rise this season. Coaches get on him NOW.

2021 6’8 Preston Turner (West Jones)

If you are looking for a true BIG look no further than Turner. He does everything a big man is supposed to do. He commands the glass, cleans up missed shots, and block shots. A skill that he has that many bigs don’t possess is his ability to shoot the ball. He looked to be in great shape this weekend and if he can continue to improve over the next few months don’t be surprised to see Turner sneaks into a 4-year program. Coaches, he is worth a look.

2021 6’4 Tyson Smithey (Ingomar)

Smithey was one of the guys that came in and worked hard in every drill and game. He gets so much done on the floor and his value to a team can never go unnoticed. He rebounds well, can score it inside and out, and even dives on the floor for loose balls. Every coach loves a guy who goes all out and Tyson does this every time he plays. You have to get up to Ingomar to catch the State Champ in action to see for yourself. Look for Tyson and Ingomar to go back to back this season.

2021 6’4 Destaan Buchanan (Tupelo Christian)

Buchanan was solid all day long. He scored the ball well and defended at a high level. He plays with a nonstop motor and has really developed his game over the last few months. He has an excellent blend of size and athletism to go along with a strong feel for the game. He’s at his best when getting downhill and attacking the basket.

2022 6’2 Lebron Lewis (West Point)

Moving onto a player that has a good cross between production and upside is Lewis. He had a productive day on both ends of the floor. He’s super athletic and can score the ball easily at the basket. Next in his development will be becoming a craftier ball-handler and better outside shooter.

2024 6’ Jakobi Thompson

Thompson was another stand out perform on the day. It’s usually hard for a freshman to come in and make his presence known playing up with the big boys but he got it done. He made tough lay ups, knocked down some jumpers and wasn’t afraid to step up and defend the older guards. The best part about it is that he is only a freshman and can only get better.
